History and Mission
The Bridgton Public Library first opened in 1895, and moved to its present location in 1913, with an addition completed in 1994.  The mission statement of the Strategic Plan, adopted in 2000, reads

The Bridgton Public Library is committed to serve the community as its information center.  Efforts will be directed to provide access to educational, informational and recreational materials in a friendly atmosphere.  The library will be responsive to the changing needs of the community and aware of evolving technologies available to fulfill its role as a service oriented dynamic library.

Collections
The library is home to far more than just books, though our print collection numbers over 25,000 volumes.  We also offer over 2500 audiovisual materials, and more than 60 magazines and newspapers.  The Children's Room has over 9,000 materials in all formats for a wide range of ages and interests.

Technology
The Bridgton Public Library also has seven computers and two printers available for public use.  A high speed broadband connection to the Internet makes web surfing and email checking a breeze.

The library's catalog is available from any public access computer in the library and on the home page of this website.

Services
The library staff is happy to help you locate whatever information you are looking for.  If we do not have the materials you need, we can borrow items from other libraries across the US via Interlibrary Loan.  Electronic databases of magazine articles are also available, as part of a statewide program.

Finding great books to read is another important part of library service.  Let us know what you like to read, listen to, or watch, and the staff can make recommendations based on your tastes and interests.

If you can't come to the library in person, then Books-On-Wheels can come to you.   Volunteers from the Friends of the Bridgton Public Library will deliver library materials to you, and pick them up when you are done.  Call the library to arrange for this service.

Programs & Events
The Bridgton Public Library is committed to a healthy schedule of programs and events for all ages and members of the community.  Check our Calendar page for the latest schedule of happenings, including weekly children's events.

Museum Passes
Through the generosity of the Friends of the Bridgton Public Library, we can offer library cardholders passes to the Portland Museum of Art,  Children's Museum of Maine and the Maine Wildlife Park.
