Search Engines

Search engines are websites that help you locate information on the Internet.   Type in what you're looking for  and the site will display a list of pages that contain these terms.  Be as specific as possible when using a search engine, to narrow your results.  Meta-search engines scan several search engines at once. Specialized search engines search within a particular topic or area to give more specific results.  Image or sound search engines search for pictures or audio clips only.  Invisible web search engines look at websites, databases, and archives not indexed by typical search engines.

For an easy-to-follow yet thorough overview of how to use search engines, go to Bare Bones 101, from the Beaufort Library at the University of South Carolina.
