The Bridgton Public Library has been, since its founding in 1895, operated by a Board of Trustees composed of local citizens committed to the support of a local public library.  The Library is a public corporation, and, like more than half of the public libraries in Maine, is not owned by its host town/city.  In Bridgton, the town does provide approximately half of the Library’s operating funds through a stipend that is approved as part of the town’s annual budget.  The remaining funds are raised by the Library through annual donations, gifts, bequests and the proceeds from the Bridgton 4 on the Fourth Road Race. The Board of Trustees oversees the operation of the Library and ensures it continues to serve the greater Bridgton community and its visitors as it has for more than a century.
